Program Highlights

Hong Kong Disneyland is a place where the fantasies of yesterday and tomorrow come to life. Animatronics is one of the enabling technologies that make the magical kingdom of dreams come true. It brings lives to the robotic animals in the theme park and enables the magic power of them e.g. elephants that lumber and elephants that fly, snakes that talk and bears that sing.

Show control is a computer system, especially in the entertainment industry, that combines disparate hardware and software-controlled lighting, sound, and visual effects into a single, synchronized system. Show control is used for theatre productions, concerts, multimedia presentations, outdoor spectacles, and similar events.

In order to promote and introduce these enabling technologies and let Hong Kong professionals abreast of this update knowledge in animatronics and show control, a half day seminar on “Animatronics and Show Control” is organized. Renowned speakers from industry will be invited to share their experience behind the scene. In this seminar, you will experience magic of animatronic show and learn some gimmicks that bring the kingdom of dreams come true in advance of the official opening of the Hong Kong Disneyland.

Message for the Seminar

China is the major audio-visual (AV) system production base and the largest market of such products in the world.  Being fully aware of the advantages in product development if one is involved in standards development and the financial implication of royalty payment if one is not, China is now developing its own audio-visual standards, called AVS.  It is envisaged that AVS will be the dominant standards used in China for services such as digital TV, DVD and MMS.

In the seminar, existing major standards in video coding such as H.261, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and the AVS will be introduced.  New development and the trend of video coding techniques will be discussed to clarify the business opportunities world-wide in the industry.    In particular, a new coding technique (developed by a professor in Hong Kong) will be briefly clarified on how it can be used in nearly all video coding standards, especially in the two most recent standards H.264 and AVS.

The seminar will also provide some insights on how AVS will become the new standard in the industry, a development to be led by the Chinese.   Hong Kong engineers and entrepreneurs can take the advantage of CEPA to develop new business by collaboration with the mainland counterparts in application of this new AV standard in the related Hong Kong industry.
