Standard in China: its technology and business opportunity"
The seminar has been successfully held at the Grand Ball Room,
Royal Plaza Hotel, Kowloon, in the morning on 5th June,
2004. According to registered guests, there were over 130
participants, of which more than half were IEE members. Amongst

local universities and industries. One local newspaper, Ming Pao, and one PC magazine, Hi-tech, had sent their reporters to the
seminar to report this event.
In the seminar, there were three presentations plus one panel
discussion session. The three presentations have been well
organised to provide an overview of the development of
audio-visual coding technologies and standards with demonstrations
on the effects of each development stage in the technology. In
particular, the principle and application of the ¡¥Integer Cosine
Transform in video coding¡¦ was clearly explained. In the third
presentation, the history of AVS development and future trend were
explained and immediate possible business areas were pinpointed.

audio-visual engineering.
2)
Provision of a bridge for communication and exchange of
views among members and others from local tertiary institutions,
industries and Hong Kong Government.
3) Adequate
knowledge about the progress, status, and future in the
audio-visual market and the related new China National Standard,
AVS, as a result of the China becoming the major production basis
as well as the emerging major market of the AV products.
The seminar
was sponsored by three companies, namely, Group Sense
